PKM | Most ICONIC Machine Gun in the World?

The PKM, modernised and improved version of the PK (Pulemyot Kalashnikova), was developed by the great Mikhail Kalashnikov and put into service in 1969.

It is based on the Kalashnikov mechanism, so it’s no surprise it uses a very similar bolt and carrier design to the AKM. This belt fed, gas operated machine gun, chambered in 7.62x54mmR, only fires automatic with the fire rate of about 650 rpm.
It weights just a bit less than 8kg (17 amerikanski units), but when loaded with a full 200-round ammo box, you are basically carrying around a 4 year old child (16kg or 36 amerikanski units).

More than 1 million PK variants were made from 1961 so you cant argue when we say that the PKM is one of the most iconic machine guns ever to be produced. 50 years later, it is still in service!
