Clearly, I should have been more explicit about several aspects of "The Foreigner Group" and our treatment of it – and I apologize for the misimpression that has arisen as a result. The book is not a glorification or a whitewashing of Azov, the author, or the other men in the unit described in the book. It is a valuable primary-source exploration of modern near-peer combat in Ukraine, on both a technical and psychological level and we are willing to tell that story.
We appreciate the great number of people who have pledged support to make the book possible, and I regret not being clearer (or perhaps less naive) in my initial video. My fundamental interest is in preserving historical narrative for future scholars to study, as you hopefully can see in the rest of my body of work.
