4 Days Solo Survival – Living Off the Land

4 days and trip. Interesting experience this time. Not my normal outing for sure. Not a real emergency of course since I doubt there is much danger with my and sleeping bag with me. But exploring if foraging for food will make a difference when you don’t have any food or with you was the goal here. First day I picked mushrooms and got myself some energy. But the question is: did I spend more or less than the 300 calories I gained eating them when picking them? And hiking off trail like I always do makes things so much worse. I boiled and purified water at least 5 times during this hike but except one of them, I spared you the endless boiling processes on camera.

Finding something to eat boost your morale absolutely. But even if I found things to eat I believe it’s a zero sum game traveling the boreal woodlands. It’s even worse. You slowly lose. If the goal is to the longest I believe the best thing to do is find a source, a and sit still.

Hunting or fishing makes a world of difference finding the right kind of fat and protein but I think circumstances will provide the same outcome sooner than later for most of us. At 54 north anyway when winter is knocking on the door.

First night was great with temps going below freezing finally. How I have missed the cold crisp dry air!

Doing this with only a knife? Yes I will try that this winter. Maybe. I’m sure it’s going to be horrible.

Thanks for watching!
