If you really want to make an effective Faraday cage for next to nothing you can use aluminum foil to protect your devices as long as all the seams are sealed with foil tape. Aluminum foil by itself provides around -90dB of protection. If you combine that with an old ammo can, or metal trash can you can easily exceed -120dB of protection, which theoretically will protect your devices from 200,000 V/m of electricity generated by a nuclear EMP.
